One of the attacked cities was our own Kamakura! I even glimpsed some familiar building scapes.
This was kind of like 'Batman Begins', with realistic responses to this as depicted first-ever attack, which is to say, the bureaucracy screws up every last step. I sympathized for the man at the railway crossing sighted before the aborted attack, but when something out of Lovecraft literally crawls up on shore, I get conflicted as to keeping to such a high ideal. In other words, the film did its job.
