Another Look At Kamakura

  • While browsing new shows to watch, I came across one with a very familiar backdrop...

The show in question is Minami Kamakura High School Girls Cycling Club ( 南鎌倉高校女子自転車部 ). It's about a girl who moves to Kamakura from Nagasaki, and...well, she joins a club of girls who like riding bikes. It seems very cute and lighthearted, and it's got some very breathtaking animation in regards to how Kamakura is depicted, with its lush flora and its urban and suburban sections looking identical to their real life states.

    • Yes, it's a very nice looking series and one that offers a great view of Kamakura and the surrounding areas. Been following it already this season. Been using it for more inspiration for my fanfics as I get to see more of the city.

    • The "end card (not sure if this is a proper English word. A drawing that is shown at the end of each episode that says "see you next week again"...) for the episode 2 was written by LO.

      End card minamikamakurahighschool

End Card of episode 2 written by LO for the anime

The preview of the anime is here. Looks like an anime of solution of riddles while making a tour guide book of the city.

Official site is here. There are nine tubs to choose at the top shown in blue letters. They are from the left, top/ news/ staff&cast/ on-air/ character/ story/ music/ blue-ray & DVD/ special.

    • I'm just pleased to find an anime this season that hasn't emotionally compromised me and is genuinely sweet. But then, I might just be watching too much Gundam...

    • I'm always amazed that you guys know much more than I do. When I want to know some latest information about anime, I think I will just ask it here. From the twitter of LO about the end card, I learned about this anime, but never paid attention to it...  Sorry but no offence intended. Same for me like I did not pay attention to Nononono. (yk)

    • I think it might be because of Google. With the English version of Google, you can find damn near anything you can think of. Though I found Minami Kamakura by accident as I was browsing a site I use to keep up with Gundam IBO and Sengoku Choujuu Giga.

If you want to watch another relaxing show you should try Flying Witch. It's nothing but soothing, calming and easing the soul.

The series has also really done a superb job in portraying the city where it takes place. I should also point out that this was for Makoto's seiyu her debut role and she did a great job.

You now picked up an anime I've never heard of but again, it is because of my laziness (?). I looked into and found the city in the manga is Hirosaki in Aomori prefecture. The writer of the manga was born and raised there so he knows the city quite well. Although he has a name (Chihiro) that could sound a female one but it is HE. (yk)

    • I've heard of this! Though I haven't checked it out yet since anything with puppets or a similar style of animation reminds me of Team America: World Police and I have a hard time taking it seriously XD

    • It looks like an anime produced under the cooperation between Taiwan and Japan. Taiwan has a traditional pupet show for some centuries. The name "Thunderbolt" reminds me of the famous USA SF TV show "Thunderbolt". The Chinese/Japanese name has, however, no such word in the title. It is "Tori (=Eastern Remote) Sword Battle Story".  (yk)

Yep, written by Gen Urobochi and produced as a collaboration between Japanese companies Nitroplus and Good Smile Company and Taiwanese puppet production company Pili International Multimedia.

Gen Urobochi? So... We can expect the usual from the Urobutcher?
