The series opens on a view of a large island facility, almost a fortress, and a helicopter landing on it, with a serious-looking man greeted by a bespectacled man waiting on the ground. The scene switches to inside the facility, and two guards waiting nervously inside a room fronted by a large reinforced steel door with many locking mechanisms. They are standing before an odd cage with someone bound up from head to toe. One comments and the other agrees that something is in the air, just as it was when another fellow guard died. 3 SAT	I : Special Assault Team, Satou Central Plot : Bando hunts Lucy and finds Nyu. Kouta refuses to believe that Nyu is the serial killer that the police detectives had described. They quickly retract the story of a mass murderer and state that the girl in question is only a missing person, and that he should contact them just in case he sees her. 4 Loss of Memory	Central Plot : Nyu is held and pushed around by Bando. Kouta and Nyu watch as Yuka is knocked out by Bando, who laughs as Nyu's horns confirm her identity beyond any doubt. 6 Transformation	Central Plot : Lucy maims and humiliates Bando, till Nyu emerges. Lucy stands with her gun held over Bando at point-blank range, taunting him about whether or not he's having 'fun' as he said earlier. 7 Destination	I : Mayu, Wanta Central Plot : Mayu saves Bando, Nyu returns to Maple House. Readers first learn that there are other Diclonius. Confused and afraid upon her re-emergence, Nyu runs down the beach away from Bando, and past a young homeless girl living in a wood-pile storage area while musing on her hunger. 8 Yuka's Memories	Central Plot : Yuka despairs of ever having Kouta's love, and remembers their childhood. Yuka walks in on the incredibly awkward scene between Kouta and Nyu. 53 Ways, Choices	I : Mariko I & D : Saito Central Plot : In order to recover Lucy and kill Nana, Chief Kakuzawa orders the release of Diclonius Silpelit # 35, the powerful and perhaps uncontrollable Mariko, the true daughter of Kurama.

55 Mariko	Central Plot : Nana at first panics when she senses Mariko, but goes to confront her on the beachfront.

61 Final Choice	Central Plot : Kurama's joy in Hiromi giving birth is tempered and then shattered by her frail health and by their daughter's condition of birth.
